Army Showcase - Part 11 - Chaos Mercenaries

This army has been years in the making. Not because it is a large army or that I have spent a long time painting it. Rather, I was given most of a Warriors of Chaos army about five years ago and have spent the last few years quibbling over how I was going to paint it, slowly adding other second-hand stuff to pad it out a bit as well. This year I finally settled on a colour scheme and spent the first half of this year working on them, finally finding the time to photograph them two weeks ago. I went a bit crazy with said photographs so this army will be spread over two posts: this one dealing with heroes and troops the second with monsters.

Ruled by a mad Daemon Prince known only as The Radic - Prince of Tears, the Mirrored Palace is a huge floating citadel whose every surface reflects the world around it. The Radic travels across the world constantly trying to find the object of all his desires: an elven maid named Yrianna. Why he loves her he cannot fathom as they are memories long since clouded and twisted by the daemon Koreal, but none the less he leads his armies into battle hoping to one day find her and discover the truth of his past. Following him is an army of fanatics who bask in his daemonic glory and broken souls forever tied to him by blood oaths.

Army Showcase - Part 10 - Sisters of Battle

My first 40k army was the Witch Hunters, incidentally starting at the same time The Euphemism began his Demon Hunters. Time moved on and whilst his army was resurrected as Grey Knights; I got a few pages in some White Dwarf Magazines. As my army previously contained some Inquisitorial units I have since had to take out, I cannot field this army as an independent force of its own. Now they are part time allies to my Imperial Guard and Dark Angels until a new codex is released for them.

I was drawn to the Witch Hunters because of their baroque and over the top grimdark aesthetics, this coupled with their fanatical devotion to the emperor and unique models made them an interesting faction all round. When starting I decided to make the army as eccentric and crazy as possible whilst sporting a holier than thou paint scheme. Apologies in advance for some of the blurry pics.

Dark Eldar - Apocalypse

To lead my Dark Eldar into the apocalypse I have added the current matriarch of the Depravum family to my army: Empress Lethis Depravum. She goes to battle with her own wytch cult; the Cult of Ecstatic Fear which I have recently bought the first unit of. I have also created a huge monstrosity to use as a Dark Eldar Super-heavy unit.

My Dark Eldar only reach just over 2000 points but I thought it would be fun to create a super-heavy for them to use in apocalypse games. All conversions for such I have seen so far are simply repurposed Eldar titans or really big raiders. I decided to go a different route and create what is essentially a large Cronos Parasite Engine. In the background the Haemonculi regenerate fallen dark eldar in their laboratories, I thought it would be interesting to have a mobile regeneration unit that uses the souls of those slain on the battlefield to restore a dark eldar lord and empower him. I therefore created this monstrosity.

Army Showcase - Part 9 - Harad and Umbar

The last of my three Lord of the Rings armies: this Harad and Umbar army took longer to paint than my other two armies as it took a while for me to really get into them. I seemed to keep getting distracted with Dark Elves and Uruk-Hai to ever really power through them, however they are finished now and it is another project ticked off of my list.

When I first joined the hobby the Mumak was amongst the most impressive models Games Workshop produced; certainly one of the largest and most expensive at the time. After several years of collecting I managed to get my hands on one which I have painted and repainted every few years as one of the centrepieces of my entire miniatures collection.

Doombringer's Dark Elves - The Workbench I

I have finally gotten round to reading the new army book and starting work on my new minis. I must say I do like the new book both stylistically and in terms of content, the full colour treatment has really bought out the sick and twisted nature of the druchii. The models (in my very biased opinion) are absolutely amazing and I would probably buy several of each box were I not restricted by time and money.

This week I have been working on my new Witch Elves and the gloriously evil Cauldron of Blood, as well as thinking about the new rules and force organisation.

Witch Elves
Another reason to love Dark Elves!
Always Strike First as an army wide special rule is fantastic and I think worth losing Eternal Hatred for, most units have Hatred (High Elves) now anyway and Murderous Prowess which I think will only make our units even deadlier on the tabletop.

There has of course been some raising of points values which was inevitable as well as a slight reorganisation of what place some units occupy in the army. Witch Elves are now core and possibly one of the best core options in the game (if you are willing to pay the price for the new models, more on that later) and the rare selection has been filled with lots of new and interesting choices. The War Hydra and the Reaper Bolt Throwers have moved into the special section, as have Harpies and the new Scourgerunner chariot. The special section is beginning to feel very crowded which means greater competition choice-wise, I have a feeling that after a while some special options will never be fielded competitively as they are passed over in favour of more optimised units.

Anyway, onto the models...

Army Showcase - Part 8 - The Blackwing

The Brotherhood of the Blackwing Angel; the secretive and mysterious servants of the Hellcarian Inquisitorial Conclave. Rife with internal conflict between Dark Angel loyalists and Inquisitor's lapdogs, they fight in the shadows to fulfil their own secret objectives and establish Hellcarian dominance within the Inquisition.

I won't put much text with this Army Showcase as all of it can be found elsewhere in the blog simply by searching for 'blackwing' or 'dark angels' tags on posts. Apologies in advance for any blurry pics.

The Blackwing Part 17 - 1500 points finished!

This year I have endeavoured to finish off all of my ongoing projects, tidy up loose ends and prepare myself for several new projects planned for next year. As usual I have somehow created more projects for myself: The Hobbit, Menoth and the Blackwing. I have successfully finished all of these projects as well as managing to finish off several armies which I have slowly been posting in my Army Showcase series.

This is the last post for my Blackwing I will be doing for the foreseeable future as I have completed the 1500 point army I set out to do. Much as I would like to expand upon this force there are other projects to start and models to paint. Thought the paintjob is fairly simple (perhaps slightly lazy) and the models occasionally mashed together from spare parts; I think I have created a decent fighting force to stand proudly besides my other Imperial armies in so short a time.

Below is a link to all the individual Blackwing posts and soon I shall be posting an Army Showcase with the army together and some group shots. I hope you have enjoyed this series and I have little doubt a similar one will spring up soon enough when I find another big project to work on.

Know your enemy: Hornets

Welcome to the second part of my Know your enemy series in which I'm going to look at rare or unusual units, how they can be used best and how they can be beaten.

I keeping with both my themes from the last article and looking at both Forgeworld and Eldar. This time, it's the Hornet.

The What?

Kudos to the paint job. Massive kudos!

Doombringer's Dark Elves - An Introduction

In a time before memory, a time before the daemons and before the phoenix kings; he found something. Something dark and terrible buried beneath the earth, a relic of another age forged in war and hatred that lusted for revenge. Something few elves but he have ever laid eyes upon, and when he rose from that dark place he had sworn his soul to it and become the harbinger of tyranny.

The lord of the Doom Spire has stalked the earth for thousands of years, reincarnating after each defeat to continue his war on the world. He has spent five lifetimes assembling his armies, forging alliances and preparing for a war that will engulf the world in the fires of hate.

His name is Doombringer and only darkness follows...

As The Euphemism mentioned previously he likes elves. He likes elves a lot.
I also like elves, only I prefer the more sinister and depraved variety.

This is the first google image result for 'dark elf'.
This is one of the more modest pictures.
This fact did not affect my descision to play dark elves.

Know your enemy: Shadow Spectres

Once again I apologise for my long delay in posting. I've had some moving problems (new house yeah!) along with my computer deciding to die.

However, enough of the excuses, onto some stuffs!

So, welcome to a new article series that I'm starting, surprisingly entitled 'Know your enemy'. What I'm going to do is focus on a unit/model that you may not be aware of or that may be complicated to face and describe what it is, how it is best used and what you can do against it.

Simples.

So I'm going to start with a new favourite unit of mine. The Shadow Spectres.

So what are they?

Well,  for starters they are a Forgeworld unit. One of the greatest joys I've found in starting Eldar, is that Forgeworld has opened to me. The Space Marine units they develop (whilst lovely) are mainly variations of power armour, or tanks that we already have (eg Spartan Assault Tanks = Land Raider variation). For the Xenos however, Forgeworld are developing new units (Necron Tomb Stalkers/Acanthrites, Tyranid Malanthropes, Tau Drone Stealth Fighters etc etc). New. Exciting. Fun. And here lies the Eldar Shadow Spectres. Of course though, you won't see them that often because not everyone uses/allows Forgeworld units. This makes them a perfect subject for the first article however.

The Blackwing Part 16 - The Deathwing

The last models to paint for my Blackwing were my terminators and the chapter-master of the Blackwing: Lord-Magister Makarios the Dead. I added more green to these to represent that they were originally Dark Angels sent to help form the successor chapter and I added areas of white as they are Deathwing terminators after all. The chapter-master is the only model other than my chaplain to have gold on him. With Chaplain Anselm I purposely dulled the gold and made it less prominent with the reasoning a chaplain would have suitably grand armour but not overly bright. With Makarios however I wanted him to look every inch a member of the Inner Circle, I reasoned that if he is called personally to a battlefield then stealth is probably not a priority and he can be forgiven for such bright attire.

Avatars in Hybrid lists?

What is this madness??

Madness? No. This is Eldar!
So I've returned after my long holiday break to bring you a controversial (potentially) look at one of the funkiest HQ choices available to an Eldar player. The Avatar of Khaine.

Expect many pictures to follow.

The Blackwing Part 15 - Ravenwing

Just returned from my holidays where I have done massive amounts of painting: all my Lord of the Rings stuff is done, all my 40k stuff is done and I have almost finished my fantasy armies. I have consumed seemingly hundreds of paint pots after discovering a shop only six miles away sold them, my black wash problems now over I have lots of things to post on the blog over the next few months.

Army Showcase - Part 7 - Isengard

Like my Eastern Kingdoms army this is painted with a limited colour palette to create a cohesive looking force on the table top. Using various models I had collected over the years I managed to make what I like to think of as an Isengard scouting force or raiding party. Composed of Uruk Scouts, Dunlendings and Orcs this is a more lightly armoured force made to represent one of the bands sent to burn the west fold. It also includes two trolls for no other reason than I had them sat doing nothing in a draw and they fit the over all look of the army.

Army Showcase - Part 6 - Coven of the Ebon Hand

The Coven of the Ebon Hand is the Haemonculi Coven sponsored by the Kabal of the Immortal Sin. Based out of a huge gravity-defying underground facility known as The Pit; they provide the Kabal with all manner of services and often accompany them on realspace raids. Rumoured to be as old as the Dark City itself, they are a small but incredibly influential coven with access to secrets long forgotten by much of the galaxy.

Eldar painting WIP

Picture heavy post this time guys, once again I apologise for the quality of my photos, I'm working with the standard camera I have.

So most of my hobby time recently has been devoted to painting up Prince Yriel and my Harlequin squad to a standard that I believe does the beauty of the miniatures justice. This is taking a while because my painting is on the whole quite average, but I find that doing this I've really improved for the reason that I've been trying new techniques and they're paying off. So I'll take you into a little look at the painting I've been undertaking and the discoveries I've made.

Army Showcase - Part 5 - Kabal of the Immortal Sin

The Depravum family can be traced back to the days of the Eldar Empire where they were a secretive family of criminals that provided their services to the most wealthy and powerful noble houses that resided in the webway. With the rise of the pleasure cults the family acted as a supplier of all manner of exotic things to the secluded pocket dimensions many nobles ruled as havens to live out their every whim. When the fall of the Eldar occurred they were safe in the webway, in the port of Commoragh. They were quick to establish themselves as a shadowy organization that ruled the noble houses and later the kabals with many puppet rulers or loyal cousins. Hundreds of family members are infiltrating every kabal in the dark city all the time, the Depravum’s ultimate goal to rule the entire dark eldar race as family members ascend to archons of every kabal united under a single patriarch or matriarch of the Depravum. During the short and unsuccessful reign of Durizael Depravum as patriarch many family operations were put on hold as they consolidated their grip on the Kabal of the Immortal Sin, soon becoming it’s de-facto rulers and using its fortress as family headquarters. Under the new rule of Lethis Depravum the family has renewed its activities, conquering district after district of the dark city; creating a small empire centered around the dark citadel of the Immortal Sin.

The Kabal of the Immortal Sin are amongst he oldest of the Kabals; able to trace their origins to a mercenary group operating out of a fortress deep in the centre of the dark city. For millennia they have served as a front to the Depravum family, one of which serving as the Kabal Archon. Safe behind the walls of their impenetrable fortress the Kabal of the Immortal Sin very rarely attempt to exert their influence much beyond their immediate surroundings, only in recent years under the reign of self-styled Empress Lethis Depravum have they begun to expand. Previously under the reign of the incompetent Durizael Depravum the Kabal suffered from factional in-fighting and was at it's weakest when Lethis returned from her mysterious absence. Since her return Durizael has remained Archon though the
de facto ruler of the Kabal of Immortal Sin is Lethis.

Army Showcase - Part 4 - The Eastern Kingdoms

This year as well as painting the 'Escape from Goblin Town' set I have been repainting some of my other Lord of the Rings armies. First to be completed was my Eastern Kingdoms army; quick and dirty I completed this army in only three painting sittings over two months. Using a limited colour palette I achieved a uniformed appearance that looks good on the table top with minimum effort. Not quite 1000 points and intended to act as allies to my larger Harad and Umbar force, I am thinking of perhaps expanding this army with some mixed infantry some point in the future.

Eldar: The Hack and Slash

So I've been attempting to draw up numerous Eldar lists for my Yriel led Pirates and I have to say I'm having a whale of a time. Everything in this codex seems to have a pull to it that makes me want to field everything!

Annoyingly they all cost many points so this is not viable.

Leafing through the Codex to begin composing these lists I've been trying to weigh up the value of the units compared to each other. Everyone and their dogs have been raving about wave serpents, which is understandable seeing how they can just do almost anything you need them to. So I won't go into that as it's been covered to death.

Well maybe not to death....I'm so sorry...
However, my current dilemma falls into a different category. Assault.

Yes I know 'Assault is dead' is repeatedly uttered without regard to the feelings of all those poor combat units out there. But regardless of this opinion I would disagree, assault is harder than shooting. And not as easy to pull off, but it is not dead. I can assure you.

Mordheim - Carnival of Chaos - Part 2

Just thought I would add a few group shots of my warband as a quick follow up to the individual shots previously posted.

Eldar: The beginning

Ok, I love Elves. I just need to get that out the way. Sue me for it later if you want.

By the way, this is the first google image for
searching 'elf' that isn't Will Ferrel...
And that definitely doesn't affect my decision at all...

I often wondered what 40k army I'd play if I were to do a Xenos force (or at least a non-marine one). Now I know the answer.

Mordheim - Carnival of Chaos - Part 1

Ladies and Gentlemen, Boys and Ghouls,
Step right up,
Within this tent lies a chaotic concoction
of delight, horror, fantasy and terror.
Your every wish is our command,
Your every murderous desire brought to life,
But i'm warning you,
There's always a price.
Welcome to the Carnival of Chaos!

I have had some photos of my Mordheim warband on my computer for a while now and after a period of painting very little I thought now would be a good time to introduce these delightful creeps to the world. Unlike with my other armies I won't post any background on them as the carnival is inherently mysterious; appearing from nowhere and leaving only blood and pestilence in it's wake...

The Blackwing Part 14 - Chief Apothacarium Nehremiah

Deformed at birth with a clawed and malformed left arm, his parents readily gave him over to the Inquisition suspecting him to be warp-tainted. The inquisitors soon recognised him as a psyker of some power and spared him execution despite his deformity. Inquisitor Loken the Elder took him onto his staff and used the young boy as his squire, during these early years of service to the senior inquisitor Nehremiah showed a talent for surgery and biological sciences. A developing biomancer, Loken transferred him into the service of Inquisitor Tobias where his abilities were further honed. When the Inquisitor Lord of Hellcaris sanctioned the formation of the Blackwing it was Tobias who was put in charge of the founding. Nehremiah was present with his master when the first members of the Blackwing were made full marines and he instantly became fascinated by the process and its mysteries. After several years he finally convinced Tobias to have him made a space marine and was inducted into the Blackwing as Chief Apothecary.

Menoth - Light Warjacks 1

These two light warjacks are more specialised than my heavy warjack: the Revenger with a mystical arc node and the Repenter with it's flamethrower. In the games I have played so far these two have done little more than flank either side of my Crusader and provide distractions. The Revenger with it's arc node gives Kreoss more flexibility with his spells so I will probably continue to use it in future. The Repenter however has been of little use so far, I may simply be using it wrong but I would sooner replace it with a different warjack with a heavier weapon.

I'd like to throw out a quick thanks to all you readers for sticking with us and also to my fellow bloggers who've helped keep this thing active whilst I've been otherwise preoccupied. (A most special thanks to Doombringer, he deserves overtime).

So basically, we've lasted a whole year. I hope you guys have been enjoying the stuff we're putting up here, thanks for your support and I pledge to continue on in this vein. In fact, I think we can take it up a notch...

The Blackwing Part 13 - Librarian Lord Arafel

Lord Arafel, often known as 'the Black' for his dark temperament, is the Chief Librarian of the Blackwing. He represents the chapter on the Hellcarian Inquisitorial High Council and aids Castellan Cyrus on the day-to-day running of the chapter. Above the petty politics much of chapter command embroil themselves in, Arafel seeks only to do his duty and perfect his mighty psychic powers.

Menoth - Heavy Warjacks 1

The Crusader is a fairly simple warjack; it runs up the field and hits stuff with it's Inferno Mace, supported by Kreoss a Crusader can happily romp it's way around a battlefield smashing most things it comes across. In one game I even had it kill the enemy warcaster after two rounds of combat and some magical support. The crusader has an open fist in addition to it's main weapon which offers some flexibility in combat

High Elves review part II: Lords

Now I finally move on to the second part of my High Elf review. The Lords section has become very interesting with the addition of competition to the almost obligatory Archmage of the last book. The magic items and High Magic are topics too big for me to discuss here so I'll cover them later. For now, I'll look into the Lords themselves and how they stand in comparison to each other.

Let's get on with it, starting with the classic choice:

The Blackwing Part 12 - Castellan Cyrus of the Tower

Castellan Cyrus commands the Black Pinnacle: the Fortress-Monestary of the Blackwing, from here he organises and maintains the chapter as well as leading the local defence forces. Cyrus is a Dark Angel loyalist who fiercely opposes any Inquisitorial meddling in Blackwing affairs, something he has come to blows with Absolom over many times. Spiteful and possessing a long memory, Cyrus waits patiently for the day he can usurp Absolom and begin rooting out Inquisitorial loyalists, making the Blackwing worthy successors of the Dark Angels.

The Blackwing Part 11 - Brother Zephiel and Inquisitor Tobias

Hero of the Battle of Darcadian IV, Brother Zephiel is one of the most revered and decorated members of the Blackwing. A talented leader of men he is much loved by his fellow brothers-in-arms and admired by the Imperial Guardsmen of Hellcaris. It is expected that he shall be promoted to Company Master upon the creation of the Blackwing's next company.

Inquisitor Tobias is one of the senior leaders of the Hellcarian Inquisitorial Conclave and overseer of the star system's military forces. It was he who suggested the creation of the Blackwing and has watched over their development. A master Biomancer he takes to the field eyes aflame with green light and wielding the mighty force hammer Epicurus.

Menoth - High Exemplar Kreoss

My first war caster straight out of the battlebox. High Exemplar Kreoss is a decent all-rounder with a mix of defensive and offensive spells at his disposal with a powerful feat that can easily change the course of a game used correctly. Despite carrying the mighty Spellbreaker I have found him to be a bit squishy and more suited to being a mid-field caster supporting his warjacks rather than fighting with them.

Homemade Terrain!

Hello Strangers!

Been a while since my last post unfortunately. University has been getting in the way. Damn you education system! Now I have 4 months of holidays so I should be getting back into it.
Unfortunately, right now I'm the only one back so until my compadres return and we can get back to gaming I'm stuck twiddling my thumbs. So instead of being completely lazy I set myself to (attempting) to make some terrain to see what I could come up with!
At first I didn't have much to work with apart from some card I found around the place so I started experimenting and making some prototypes to see what I could try and make work until the plasticard I ordered arrived.
As does pretty much everything in my life I started of with doodles!
For the first time in my life Pythagoras actually came in handy!

I had an idea from the space hulk set to try and make a kind of multi part trench or walkway so that you can mix and match and make whatever kind of pattern you want with them. For the prototypes I just made a corner section, a ramp and an end section with a platform.

I'm planning to make these out of plasticard and glue instead of tape and card when I can and make a few different types such as T sections, crossroads, straight sections and I'm going to try making an end section that ends in rubble to make it look like its been destroyed.
These work quite well to say they are only made from card and tape. But the walkways on these are only 30mm across which leads to problems for anything that doesn't have a 25mm base.

With this in mind I went a bit more adventurous (and sympathetic for the fattys with their 40mm bases) and went for something a bit larger.

As you can see the ramp on this I made larger. A whole 75mm to be exact! This means that even the chunky dreadnoughts can amble their way up into a better firing position.

Then a miracle occurred! The plasticard arrived! *cue fireworks*
Before I started remaking all that I had already made out of card I decided to have a play around first and came up with this.

IMHO I don't think its too bad for a first try. The ramp is 50mm across so provides access for terminators and other 40mm base models.
My main problem now however is that I need to find some cheap gray paint and get them looking all pretty!

I'm going to try making more like these so I'll post the results when I can!

Melons, out!

The Blackwing Part 10 - Armoured Support

I managed to cheaply get hold of some armoured support for my Blackwing, being second hand they had been modelled with some battle damage but I didn't mind. I painted both the Dreadnought and Razorback to look as dirty as possible, as if previously mass produced and irregularly cleaned since. Despite playing Imperial Guard I have only painted a few vehicles and generally prefer infantry which may be part of the reason for the fairly bland colours.

High Elves review part I: Core

So yes, it has been a while since I got a post out (a fact I am deeply ashamed of) and so I shall begin to redeem myself.

It's been about a month since the new High Elves came out and I think it's about time to start posting my review. I'm going to start with the core units as they are the foundation on which we'll be building lists. Also, it's the section that I think has undergone the most interesting changes.

So, without further ado, let's cut to the core of the matter.

I couldn't resist, sorry

Warmachine - Now for something completely different...

For a while I have been thinking of trying something different. After looking at various miniature wargames I decided on two I fancied having a go at: Warmachine and Pike & Shotte. My brother (and my most regular opponent) showed little interest in re-enacting the wars of the 17th century, so I opted first to have a stab at some full metal fantasy.

Warmachine is made by Privateer Press; consequently making it the first non-GW miniature game I have played. Unlike both Warhammer Fantasy and 40k, Warmachine does not require you to buy massive armies (unless you really want to) and functions mainly as a skirmish game where huge steam-powered robots controlled by powerful Warcasters attempt to beat each other to hell and back. Of the various factions available to me I chose the Protectorate of Menoth because of their zero-telerance policy towards heretics, pyromania and fancy robes.

The road to salvation is paved with the skulls of heretics!
With my brother also starting I had an opponent, ready to crush him beneath my righteous heel I managed to get both the Battle Box starter set and the Menoth hardback faction book off of ebay cheaply and set about my plans. Over the past two months I have been avidly reading everything I can about the Protectorate and slowly painting my first set of models which I will post as soon as I get the chance to photograph them.

The other day I had my first battle against Cygnar which ended with me smashing Coleman Stryker's smug face into a bloody pulp. It was most enjoyable and when I know the rules better I will post some of the battles I have against my brother. It was fun to try out a vastly different rule set to what I am accustomed to and I look forward to playing some more games in future.

With my Blackwing now mostly painted and not likely to expand any time soon, I have decided that this shall be my main project until my beloved Dark Elves or Sisters of Battle get a new book. I hope to be posting all kinds of Warmachine goodness over the next couple of months as I get to grips with the game and adding even more variety to the blog.

Glory to Menoth!

The Hobbit - Thror, The Last King Under the Mountain

Thror, mightiest of the dwarf kings, grandfather of Thorin Oakenshield and in my opinion one of the best models in GWs Middle-Earth range. Thror appears the very embodiment of the lonely mountain itself due to his flowing robes making his silhouette quite pyramidal and grey-white beard like a snow-capped peak. For one so obsessed with gold I painted him in as much of it as possible which should make him contrast nicely with what is likely to be a predominantly silver army.

The Blackwing Part 9 - Dark Vengeance

Finally got hold of Dark Vengeance! I wasted no time in starting to get these painted up and ready to deliver the emperor's wrath. I decided that these tactical marines would lack the helmet modifications and robes of my earlier tactical marines as they are newly created space marines who are yet to earn their right to do so in battle.

The Blackwing Part 8 - Sons of the Skull

Young Hellcarian guardsmen who show devotion to the Inquisition and advanced battlefield aptitude are inducted into the Sons of the Skull. This elite military school currently serves to train new Blackwing recruits until a tenth company can be formed. Students are trained to peak physical fitness and regularly taken into battle with the Blackwing where they are taught the art of war, devotion to the Emperor and obedience to the Hellcarian Inquisitorial High Conclave.

The Blackwing Part 7 - Devastators

I managed to get a battle against Chaos Space Marines the other week in which I killed droves of heretics but ultimately lost due to a seemingly indestructible Hellbrute that carved it's way through half my army in the latter part of the game. I had some very unlucky rolls and committed a few grave tactical errors; things went a bit pear-shaped around Turn 4 and despite killing most of the enemy I had failed to make up enough points to win. I have however learnt from my mistakes and plan on a rematch sometime in the next few months.

New High Elves!!!

Well, I've been absent for a while and for this I apologise. And so cue the obligatory, short, 'I'm still alive' post.

'It's aliiiiive...'
I've been having a busy time recently trying to get on top of my work load and I'm not quite there yet so you'll have to bear with me for a short time yet but do not fret! I will return...

After I'm done Haydn...
Sorry, couldn't help myself.

However, as the title of the post suggests I am very much excited for the new High Elf release looming before us. High Elves are my first love in the whole of the miniature wargaming world so I am champing at the bit to see them now as they look amazing I have ordered a copy of the army book and, once it arrives, I will begin a series of posts looking into this in detail so expect a very 'fantastical' (if you'll pardon the pun) set of posts coming up. I also have a few 40k articles in the works, as I often do so although I am quiet at this moment in time, once I am fully on top of my coursework/exams I will return with a vengeance.

Thanks for bearing with me folks.

The Blackwing Part 6 - Squad Paley, The Watchmakers

One of my five-man tactical squads for use in smaller games. These were made from some old space marine models I found at the bottom of my bitzbox with helmets remodelled slightly and robes added. Squad Paley is a unit of Dark Angel space marines assigned to be amongst the founding members of the Blackwing, loyal to the Inner Circle above all else they are reliable soldiers assigned to carry out covert missions unknown to their Inquisitorial overlords.
