Death from the Skies? That's new -- isn't it?

A £20 supplement book just so I can keep using a unit that's already in my codex GW? That sounds like a great idea, where's my wallet?

I wasn't going to go down this road but then I saw Alan Rickman...
Stop!

Let's take it back a step here shall we? I don't want to get ahead of myself.

The Blackwing Part 4 - New Book

The other day I managed to get into town to pick up a few things, amongst them the new Dark Angels book. The book itself is very beautiful and the rules seem decent. I have so far only had a quick look through but I have taken the chance to start writing a new version of my previous army list.

The Blackwing - 1500pts WIP

HQ
Company Master - Power fist, Storm bolter   130
Librarian - Mastery Level 2   100

Troops
Tactical squad - 10 marines, Plasma pistol, Plasma gun, Plasma cannon   210
Tactical squad - 5 marines, Power weapon   100

Elites
Deathwing - 5 terminators, Chainfist, Assault cannon   245

Fast Attack
Assault Marines - 5 marines, 2 Plasma pistols, Power fist, Melta bombs   155
Ravenwing - 3 bikes, Plasma gun   105

Heavy Support
Devastator Squad - 5 marines, Power weapon, Heavy bolter, Multi-melta, Missile launcher, Plasma cannon   145
     -Razorback   55

All squads are upgraded with veteran sergeants. This list doesn't yet reach 1500 points as I have only reworked what was previously in my list and I think some of the addition may be off. I am thinking of adding a scout squad and replacing one of my HQ choices with an Interrogator Chaplain in terminator armour to represent my Chapter Master to up the points a bit; but am unsure as to what else to add. I would like to include some of the cool new stuff that has been bought out recently but I don't have the money to spend on them with the expansion to my Warriors of Chaos army I have planned.

The Hobbit - Oin and Gloin

Of all the dwarves I really enjoyed Oin's performance and look which I though was incredibly typically dwarvish. I also liked the visual throwback to Gimli that Gloin was so I opted to do these two next. I am very happy with how Oin turned out though I am not happy with Gloin's flesh and I may have to go back and change it. Gloin, Balin, Dori and Bilbo all have strong red elements to them so distinguishing them from one another visually was important. To this end I used the long since discontinued 'red gore' as the base for the reds on Gloin, hopefully this should make his red distinct from the others.

Themey McTheme Theme!

Greeting and salutations fellow tabletop gamers!

It has been a while since my last post (regrettably Uni has kept me pretty busy with exams and coursework) but I shall post when I have the time or when I have enough news/ideas to actually fill a post!

Along with the Euphemism you have probably noticed that I have been doing some themed lists too (See the Wolfwing vs the Nasties battle rep) and the only one up to yet has been a Haemonculus Covern (aptly named 'The Nasties') which was created soley of the Haemonculi and their creations!

Battle rep: Wolfwing vs Deldar Coven (aka the Nasties) 2000pts

It's battle report time!! Today we have the unusual match-up of:

Wolfwing v Haemonculus Coven (aka, 'the nasties' as Melons entitled them) at 2000pts.

Yes, this was me V Melons (the reckoning. I figure it needed a subheading) on the old Vassal. Pictures follow

Year of the Snake

So it is Chinese New Year people! And as we are now heading into the year of the Snake, here at Eyes of the Snake I thought I'd spread the celebration with a couple of pictures of snakes themselves. I will continue this theme into the rest of the posts this week as a tribute.

Happy New Year!

Wolfwing - the challenge

Wolfwing!

I'm hungry like the wolf...

Can it be done?

I'm going to find out if it can and hopefully make this, relatively suicidal, list into something vaguely competitive.

So first off, what is wolfwing?

Well, as you may or may not know, the Space Wolf codex has a named HQ character in it called Canis Wolfborn. This little fella grants the fantastic ability to make fenrisian wolves troop choices. Now, using this we have the unique ability to make an entire Space Wolf army out of wolves and people riding wolves (thunderwolves naturally).

This is wolfwing!

The Hobbit - Fili and Kili

This was the first duo of dwarves I painted and I must say I am very happy with the results. Though not entirely accurate to the paint scheme on the box or to the movie; I wanted to convey the mood of the characters more than anything else to make them instantly recognisable on the tabletop. I am also incapable of doing tiny freehand patterns so you won't see anything too fancy on the things I paint.

Fili and Kili have turned out oddly almost as polar opposites with Fili quite a light model whereas Kili has ended up very dark. This was not intentional but I think it helps them stand out against the other dwarves I have started. Both have their blue hoods from the books and I played up the blue element on Kili to mimic Thorin, who I have started but won't finish for a while.

The Hobbit - Radagast the Brown

I must admit I was a little anxious after seeing images of Radagast and being told about him by people who had seen the film before me. I had always thought of the brown wizard much like how GW had done with a model some years ago, though I must say I was pleasantly surprised by Sylvester McCoy's performance and enjoyed the whimsical nature of the character. I walked into the cinema feeling like Saruman and left more like Gandalf.

Anyway, the model is superbly detailed and has a lovely dynamic pose. Which I think contrasts with Gandalf quite nicely. Painting the two wizards makes me want to get a model for Saruman, perhaps the one on a horse. I painted him in darker shades of brown as I didn't think the paint scheme on the box was grubby enough. I thought of the colour of soil and went for that. It really was a treat to paint such a detailed and multi-layered model that was so radically different to what I normally paint. To improve my painting I try to paint as many different models as possible and so far I am finding these Hobbit miniatures a delightful diversion from the grim darkness of the far future or the blood-stained lands of the Old World.

6 months of 6th ed

Celebrate good times

So yes, it occurs to me that we are approaching the 6 month anniversary of 40k 6th edition (I hope you all have your bunting ready) so I thought I'd take a look back and see how it's affected the meta in general.

Now, I am a 5th ed player. I'll get this out into the open straight from the word go to clear things up. I'm not a veteran in the sense that I've been around for the long haul, I don't have any fantastic memories of the 'glory days' of 40k (not that I've heard that really, 5th ed seemed to go down very well).
